Spin Physics in Deep Inelastic Scattering A
The problem of our understanding of the spin structure of the nucleon has been with us since the publication of the EMC measurements of the polarised structure function of the proton in 1987. In this talk a brief history of the subject is given followed by a review of the results presented in this workshop and the progress made to date.
متن کاملThe Proton Spin Puzzle and Λ Polarization in Deep–inelastic Scattering
We point out that measurements of longitudinal Λ polarization in the target fragmentation region of deep–inelastic ν N and μN or eN scattering may test dynamical mechanisms invoked to explain the proton spin puzzle. A previously-proposed model for polarized s̄s pairs in the proton wave function reproduces successfully the negative Λ polarization found in the WA59 ν̄ N experiment, and makes predic...
متن کاملTesting Target Independence of the ‘ Proton Spin ’ Effect in Semi - Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering
A natural consequence of the composite operator propagator-vertex description of deep inelastic scattering developed by the authors is that the anomalous suppression observed in the flavour singlet contribution to the first moment of the polarised proton structure function g 1 (the ‘proton spin’ problem) is not a special property of the proton structure but is a target independent effect which ...
متن کاملA Test of Target Independence of the ‘Proton Spin’ Effect in Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering
The so-called ‘proton spin’ problem, viz. the anomalous suppression in the first moment Γp1 of the polarised structure function g 1 , continues to be the focus of intense theoretical and experimental activity. In the explanation proposed in collaboration with S. Narison and G. Veneziano[1,2], this suppression is identified as a generic, targetindependent feature of QCD related to the axial anom...
متن کاملSlow proton production in deep-inelastic neutrino scattering on deuterium.
The cross section for semi-inclusive deep inelastic charged current neutrino scattering on hydrogen and deuterium in which a slow proton is observed in coincidence with the muon is computed as a function of Bjorken x and light-cone momentum of the detected proton. In the Impulse Approximation contributions from hadronization and (in case of the deuteron) the emission of a spectator nucleon are ...
